The Roads and Transport Authority Dubai has debunked the rumors about putting a cap on the number of driving license tests. Recently, a non-English news website reported that applicants won’t be able to take driving license tests for 6 months after 10 failed attempts.
A senior RTA official said that they have been sensibly thinking on this matter for some time, but didn’t approve anything yet. He also said that some people are rumoring about increasing the number of minimum driving classes, which is baseless. RTA is keeping the cap at 40 lessons minimum. However, he informed that RTA can anytime increase the number of lessons keeping in view the capabilities of learners and their financial condition.
We previously reported that the driving lesson time has been increased from half an hour to a full hour effective from Jan 1. The road safety advocates have lauded this step for producing better and safer drivers on the road.
“Authorities are constantly looking to safeguard drivers. In this context, the extension of the driving class duration (from 30 minutes per day to one hour per day) is a welcome initiative,” said Thomas Edelmann, founder and managing director of Road Safety UAE.
