Kitty Hawk, a Silicon Valley startup allegedly backed by Google’s Co-Founder Larry Page, has published a video of their first flying car on Monday, which will go on sale by the end of this year.
The single seat aircraft has a spider web like platform with two pontoons attached under it for lifting. As shown in the video, the flying car is meant to be used over water. We can see a man taking off from a lake on the aircraft and flying above water surface.
The 220 pounds (100) flying car can go as high as 15 feet, and is propelled by eight rotors. The flying speed of the craft is reported to be 25 miles per hour (40kph). The company says, the production model of the aircraft will be different from the current prototype.
The all-electric aircraft is harmless, fully inspected and permissible to be flown over uncongested places. As the flyer is considered ultra-light by Federal Aviation Administration, no pilot license will be needed to fly the aircraft. Additionally, the flyers will need only two hours to learn the functioning of the aircraft.
Reportedly, Larry Page invested millions of dollars on Kitty Hawk and a new electric car company.
In an email response to the query of AFP (Agence France-Presse), it was stated that two lead engineers Cameron Robertson and Todd Reichert engineered the Kitty Hawk flying craft and own the startup called Aerovelo.
Moreover, a test flyer Cimeron Morrissey posted about her experience on a blog saying that flying the aircraft felt more like flying a motorbike in air.
Reportedly, European conglomerate Airbus and several other companies are working to produce similar flying cars.
