Dubai Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) and Uber have joined hands to work on self-driving flying vehicles in Dubai. The memorandum of understanding (MoU) was announced during the second edition of Dubai Future Accelerators Programme for 2017 organized by Dubai Future Foundation.
The teams at Uber and RTA are getting along very well after their partnership and have plans to bring self driving flying vehicles in Dubai within the next five years.
Uber wants to make the flying vehicle technology affordable for common people to the extent that flying to work would be cheaper than owing a car. According to UberUAE, more flying vehicles means there will be less cars on the road. The empty space can be utilized for more useful purposes. Thus, in a way, these new self-driving vertical take-off and landing vehicles will affect everything from traffic to property rates.
Uber will not be building this technology, it will rather take help from other companies and only act as a platform connecting vehicles with commuters.
RTA is already working on the project of autonomous aerial vehicles that are expected to hit the sky of Dubai this July.
