The 2019 Volkswagen T-Roc Crossover concept was first displayed publicly at the 2014 Geneva Auto Show. It was based on the automaker’s MQB platform featuring an optional 4Motion drive system. Now, the automaker has confirmed that the T-Roc Crossover will make its debut in the US next year and will sit below the VW Tiguan.
The concept model was equipped with a 2.0L TDI engine, also found in the Golf GTD. This engine is capable to deliver 181 bhp and 280 lb.-ft of torque. Talking about the performance specs, the T-Roc Crossover is powerful enough to go from 0 to 100 km/h in just 6.9 seconds. Although the automaker has not confirmed the powertrain specifications, we believe it will carry the same unit as was found in the concept model.
Volkswagen has still not mentioned where the T-Roc will be built. The company’s Mexico plant is responsible for building the Tiguan, while the Chattanooga plant is used for MQB production. VW might choose the Portugal plant to develop the T-Roc. We also expect Volkswagen will change the nameplate once it launches the crossover in the US.
The VW T-Roc will reach the European markets in August 2017 with an optional all-wheel drive system, while the US debut will take place sometime next year.
