From April 16th, 2017, customers will no longer be able to buy the entry-level Tesla Model S 60 and 60D, as the automaker has decided to discontinue both the models.
The Tesla Model S 60 and 60D are currently the cheapest models in the Tesla lineup with a starting price of $69,200, including destination. Both basically come equipped with a 75-kWh battery pack with software locked to 60 kWh, and the customers are required to pay extra to take advantage of the outstanding 15 kWh. According to the automaker, most of the customers upgrade to 75-kWh by paying extra, so it’s sensible to stop selling the 60-kWh version.
If you are upset with this announcement and preferred a cheaper Tesla model, then wait for a few months as the automaker is planning to launch the Tesla Model 3, which will start from as low as $35,000. The Tesla Model 3 has already been caught testing a couple of times and it is expected to arrive at the dealerships sometime in 2018.
Since Tesla has also expanded its operations to UAE, we can expect the Model 3 to hit the UAE roads later this year or in the start of next year. More details will be uncovered in the coming few months.
