Daimler AG has decided to recall one million units worldwide after 51 cases of Mercedes cars catching fire reported recently. The Mercedes-Benz UAE is notifying car owners about the recall, which is initiated due to a faulty fuse in the new models that may overheat and cause a fire. Fortunately, there have been no causalities or injuries so far
The company’s spokesperson said that the problem can be fixed within an hour through the official dealer who will install an extra fuse for free.
The Mercedes-Benz models in concern include A-Class (176 platform), B-Class (242/246 platform), CLA (117 platform), GLA (156 platform), C-Class (205 platform), E-Class (213 platform) and GLC (253 platform) cars.
“On these vehicles, the starting current limiter could be overloaded under certain conditions during the starting procedure. In case the starter would be blocked due to a previously occurred damage (for instance, hydrolocked engine), a very high electric current would flow through the starting current limiter during the following start attempt,” Daimler’s representative explained to Gulf News.
If the driver continues to try and start the car engine, the high electric current could overheat the starting current limiter and cause damage.
