Mobile World Congress-Barcelona, Spain was the center stage where Roborace officially removed the cover over the very first autonomous electric race car. Both the CEO Denis Sverdlov and Chief Design Officer Daniel Simon were the main acts of the night, who delivered a keynote address about the progress of autonomous vehicles.
Speaking during the event Sverdlov said that the unveiling is a massive step for the automobile industry toward advanced driverless technology. He also stated that the car was developed within a year and the firm is looking forward to the future.
The car’s design was done by the automotive futurist, Simon who also developed sci-fi vehicles for Tron Legacy and Oblivion. The car weighs around 2,149 pounds, 188.9 inches in length and 78.7 inches in width. The first autonomous electric race car is equipped with 4 motors generating 300kW and a 540kW battery which is made up of carbon fiber. All the power can clock up to 320 kilometers per hour (198mph).
The autonomous technologies include 18 ultrasonic radars alongside optical sensors, cameras and positioning systems. The Nvidia’s Drive PX2 brain powers the car and is programmed by a group of software engineers using complex algorithms.
Michelin has already signed a mega deal to be the official tire partner for this driverless electric race car, and further developments are expected in the near future.
