EThe Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) Dubai signed a deal with Tesla Inc. to buy 200 Tesla cars for Dubai Taxi Corporation’s fleet of Limousines. The agreement was signed during the World Government Summit 2017 to conform with Dubai’s plans of promoting ‘green’ mobility solutions and driverless transport. The electric cars will include Model S sedans and Model X SUVs. All these Tesla cars will feature full autonomous driving capability.
The pact for 200 Tesla cars was signed by Mattar Al Tayer (Director General and Chairman, RTA) on behalf of RTA Dubai and Elon Musk (CEO, Tesla Inc.) . The event was attended by executives and officials from both sides. Al Tayer also offered his gratitude to Musk for initiating Tesla’s launch in Dubai . The automaker will open a store and service center in Dubai to maintain the electric cars.
Last year, Tesla took another bold step to create a hybrid system that produces and reserves solar power in its vehicles. It also extended its production to manufacture heavy vehicles like buses. Tesla’s innovation in autonomous driving is exactly what Dubai needs to achieve its goals of becoming the smartest city in the world. RTA will test run these vehicles before putting them on the roads.
