Last year Aston Martin stated its plans of developing a hypercar in collaboration with the Red Bull Racing Formula One team. In July 2016, we saw the Aston Martin hypercar in concept form and now more details have emerged which tell that it will carry a high-performance engine developed by Cosworth, a carbon fiber body kit by Multimatic and electric-related elements by Rimac.
The hypercar, codenamed AM-RB 001 will be equipped with a 6.5L V-12 engine. Although powertrain specifications have not been revealed by any stakeholder, but we expect the engine will churn out around 1,000 horsepower. The engine will be paired to a hybrid system and is expected to deliver a 1:1 power to weight ratio, thus expect the overall weight around 1,000 kg too.
The powertrain will be mated to a paddle-shifted 7-speed transmission system built by Ricardo. The automaker mentions that the transmission system will encourage “minimal mass and maximum efficiency.
Multimatic, the company which also designed the body structure of Ford GT supercar, Aston Martin ONE-77 and Vulcan, will construct the carbon fiber monocoque structure for the AM-RB 001.
Aston Martin will build only 175 units of the AM-RB 001 hypercar and the official unveiling ceremony is expected to take place sometime next year.
