With plans to reach new global markets, CEO Elon Musk is looking to a possibility of Tesla India presence this summer. He said this in a recent tweet in reply to a question. At present, India isn’t a country with high EV sales, but the electric car maker aims to change all this by launching a vehicle manufacturing site in India. Surprisingly, his announcement trigged encouraging responses from Tesla India fans, however many think that India may not be ready for this launch.

India’s auto market can be compared to that of California. Here, Tesla may see a prompt surge in contrast to the markets of US and China. The Hindu  news agency throws light on the car sales figures of 2015 (2016 figures have not yet been pursued) and according to them, 2 million vehicle units were sold in India in 2015, which is 10% more than the preceding year, yet fewer than the sales of 17 million units in US and over 20 million units in China. However, India has a prominent luxury vehicle market that may work for Tesla’s benefit.

Along with other countries in the world, India is also concerned about toxins and pollutants in the atmosphere. To counter this, Indian government is working to promote eco-friendly road transport. Tesla India facility will help fulfill India’s aim for all cars to be electric by 2030.
