A few days back we shared the new Range Rover Sport Coupe was caught testing, but we did not know the real name of the SUV. However, now we have learnt that the Sport Coupe SUV will be called Range Rover Velar.

The Range Rover Velar will ride on the same platform as the Jaguar F-Pace and will slot between the Evoque and Range Rover Sport. According to Autocar, the Velar will initially be launched with a Ford’s V6 engines, but that will finally be switched Jaguar Land Rover’s own Ingenium inline-six-cylinder engines. Some reports indicate that V8, hybrid and plug-in hybrid variants will join the lineup too.

Autocar also mentions the Velar will be having a low weight of around 1,800 Kg, thanks to the aluminum body structure and chassis. Moreover, the ground clearance would be good enough to ensure a spectacular off-road performance.

With the powerful engine and improved aerodynamics, the Range Rover Velar will compete against the Porsche Macan, BMW X6 and the Mercedes GLE Coupe. The official debut is expected to take place at the 2017 Geneva Auto Show and the base model will most likely be priced around £60,000 ($75,000), whereas the top trim levels can go up to £90,000 ($112,500).
