The Dubai Police has revealed the five most fatal traffic offenses, which proved deadly for commuters. Taking an unsolicited turn, not giving adequate attention on the road, keeping a short distance between cars, over-speeding and negligent driving instigated 144 of the 198 traffic demises reported in Dubai last year.

Not giving enough attention on the road caused 42 deaths, whereas not keeping proper distance between vehicles caused 38. Speeding took the lives of 15 people, while negligent driving resulted in 12 deaths. Besides, making an unexpected turn triggered 37 deaths.

Major-General Mohammed Saif Al Zafeen, Assistant Commander-in-Chief of the Dubai Police for Operational Affairs declared the usage of cell phones while driving a usual aspect in the majority of these mishaps. According to him, most fatal traffic offenses and accidents are the outcome of carelessness, and drivers have to make a split-second decision to avoid collision. And when they use mobile phones, their reaction time greatly increases, making it hard for them to avoid impact.

Previous year, more than 60,000 mobile phone violations were noted by the Dubai Police. This is an alarmingly big figure and depicts the lack of awareness in drivers throughout the Emirate.
