The International Lexus Design Competition was started in 2013 in order to support and promote up-and-coming designers from around the globe. For the Lexus Design Award 2017 under the theme of ‘Yet’, Lexus has chosen 12 finalists out of 1,152 participants from 63 countries.
The Yet theme chosen for the 5th anniversary of this Lexus event encourages to find innovative outcomes by fusing incompatible goals. By combing divergent elements using “Yet philosophy”, Lexus aims to deliver revolutionary and creative new experiences to its customers.
According to Takayuki Yoshitsugu, Chief Representative, Middle East and North Africa Representative Office, Toyota Motor Corporation, “Each year, the Lexus Design Award inspires a group of talented creators to create some of the most brilliant, unique and creative concepts the world of design has ever seen. We are proud to be giving these gifted individuals the global platform to showcase their creativity and imagination.”
Out of the 12 finalists selected for the Lexus Design Award 2017, four were chosen to advance to the final round and were asked to build a prototype for their design. The four designs chosen comprise of ‘Having nothing and yet possessing everything’ (Korea), ‘PIXEL’ (Japan), ‘Player’s Pflute’ (China) and ‘Structural Color- Static yet Changing’ (USA).
The four selected prototypes along with the design of other eight finalists will be displayed at the Lexus Exhibition this year during the Milan Design Week. The event will be held from April 3rd to April 9th. The winner will be announced by the panel of six judges.
More details regarding the Lexus Design Award 2017 will be announced by mid-February on the official website.
