The 4th series of Dubai Tour started yesterday morning. To make the event successful, Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has planned a five-day traffic course being the main supporter of Dubai Tour 2017. The five-stage event comprises of 16 teams competing consecutively from Tuesday to Saturday across UAE’s six emirates covering a total of 865km.
Some streets and districts will be closed from 10:30am to 3:30pm. Maitha bin Adai, CEO of Road and Traffic Agency and Chairperson of the management team said that the tour will take just 10 minutes to pass every route, after which, the traffic will restore to normal. Although each street is expected to be closed for 30-45 minutes, RTA will be posting updates on social media.
The route is divided into five stages. First stage began at 11am yesterday and participants covered a distance of 181km from Dubai International Marine Sports Club to Palm Jumeirah. The stage two continued today on the route of about 187km. It started from DIMC (same starting location as stage 1) headed all the way to Ras Al Khaima. Tomorrow morning, the stage 3 will begin with a stretch of 200km from DIMC to Fujairah. The fourth stage will open on Friday from DIMC to Hatta on a 172km track. The final stage will take place on Saturday. With the same starting point, as for previous stages, the competing cyclists will stop at City Walk after covering 127km distance.
Maitha advised motorists to cooperate with the entities involved in this event and ensure safety by following the traffic directives applied during the five-day Dubai Tour 2017. Other security arrangements are made by Dubai Police, the UAE Cycling Federation, and the Dubai Sports Council.
