We just witnessed the teaser image of the new Mitsubishi SUV released by the automaker and reports suggest that it is scheduled to debut at the 2017 Geneva Auto Show. It will slot between the Outlander and the Outlander Sport and is most likely to replace the current ASX.

The teaser image previews only the side profile of the new Mitsubishi SUV. It looks similar to the Mitsubishi’s XR-PHEV  concept which was unveiled by the automaker in Tokyo in 2013. Judging from the teaser, we can notice the SUV features slanted C-pillars, sharp character lines and beautifully designed taillights.

The automaker has not revealed any powertrain details, but the 1.5-liter turbocharged petrol and a 2.2-liter turbo diesel found in the Outlander are most likely to power the new Mitsubishi SUV. The gasoline engine may either be paired to a six-speed manual or a CVT gearbox, while the diesel engine is expected to be mated to a six-speed automatic transmission system. Mitsubishi is also believed to introduce a plug-in hybrid variant of the SUV once the regular model makes its debut.

Currently, we don’t know what this new SUV will be called, but some industry experts think that it will be named as ‘Eclipse’. True details will be uncovered when the Geneva Auto Show kicks off in March. Stay tuned!
