Muscat Municipality is taking steps to address lack of parking spaces by introducing multi-level parking systems in commercial areas. The city currently has over 10,000 parking slots, but to keep up with the increasing number of vehicles, there must be more parking lots.
Khalid Mahmood Ali Al Hasani, Assistant Director and Supervisor for paid parking meter in Muscat Municipality thinks the multi-storey parking facilities would serve best for the places where land is limited, especially commercial areas that are jam-packed. The multi-storey facilities can put up over 400 cars, whereas the same land can house only 50 cars.
In Muscat, the parking congestion woes are leading to loss of business. Customers have to park their cars very far, which force them not to visit a particular place.
The multi-level parking will not only provide cars with feasible parking spots, but will also shelter them. The new multi-level parking facility at The Royal Hospital has room for up to 487 vehicles.
