Mootary is a campaign started by three Emirati women to impart knowledge of cars in UAE women. The campaign arranges free workshops to teach women the basics of auto mechanics, which include water level inspection, oil changing and other minor tasks related to vehicle maintenance. The first workshop was conducted on 24th September, 2016 at Al Nabooda Automobiles on Shaikh Zayed Road, in which 25 women between 17 and 50 years old participated.
The workshop teaches women theoretically as well as practically. For practical demonstration, a trainer from Audi shows them how to change tires and keep a check on water, fuel and battery levels.
One of the visionaries behind this campaign, Rihab Awadh says, she has been dependent on her brother or father for car repairing advice. In the event her car breaks down, she had to wait for hours. This motivated her to gain knowledge about automobiles and handle basic car maintenance services. Rihab wants every woman in the UAE to have basic car knowledge to deal with the vehicle related emergencies and prevent cheating at service stations because of their lack of knowledge.
Mootary has now collaborated with Al Nabooda and is being sponsored by Emirates NBD. The second workshop will be held on 21st January from 10am-3pm at Al Nabooda Automobiles on First Al Khail Road, Dubai. The seats are limited, so interested women are advised to register themselves on mootary.uae@gmail.com as soon as possible.
