Oman Road Safety Association (ORSA) is working on legally enforcing the installation of child car seats. The experts are voicing their concerns over the road accidents and fatalities in Oman. The goal in 2017 would be to ensure the safety of children and efforts are underway to make child car seats mandatory on Omani roads.
As exclaimed by CEO ORSA, Ali Al Barwani, road fatalities have been exceeded in the recent months and the only way to reduce further calamities is to create awareness in school students, youth, families, the community and businesses through their new vision ‘Conscious Society, Safe Roads’.
Statistical analysis of National Center for Statistics and Information (NCSI) reveals 3,793 road accidents that caused 616 causalities. Most accidents were caused by over-speeding and irresponsible driving. Animal fatalities have also been reported. Concerned for the future of Oman, Al Barwani said that children are our first priority. He further added that children below the age of 12 require car seats, whereas, others can make use of them depending on their weight and height. If this security measure is approved, traveling with children without safety seats will be punishable by law.
