While everyone thought Fiat Chrysler Automobile is no longer in mood to launch new vehicles under the Chrysler nameplate, the automaker has introduced something totally unique giving us a hint on what FCA has in store for the future. In an attempt to rival Tesla, the Chrysler Portal concept electric van will be unveiled by the automaker at the 2017 Consumer Electronics Show, which starts from January 5th.
The Chrysler Portal concept is a six-seater electric van featuring a range of 250 miles on a single charge. It will also have fast charging facility enabling customers to add 150 miles in just 20 minutes.
FCA is working with Panasonic to develop an infotainment system for the Chrysler Portal, which will allow occupants to stay fully connected. The cabin consists of two displays – one, wide display screen above the front dash which shows vital information related to the car, and the other in the center of the dash.
The best thing about the Chrysler Portal concept is the level 3 self-driving capability. The electric van will make an extensive use of sensors both inside and outside the vehicle and cloud data. Look out for the 2017 CES, as FCA reveals more information regarding the Chrysler Portal concept.
