The 2018 Audi A1 is now in testing phase and we have been fortunate to catch a prototype test-driving somewhere in the snow.
The current Audi A1 launched in 2010 didn’t arrive in the United States and we doubt this redesigned model would debut either. Compared to the current Audi A1, the 2018 model would boast a more traditional hatchback design. The wheelbase has been stretched too for an increased interior space.
The 2018 Audi A1 will share its underpinnings with the new redesigned Volkswagen Polo, whose prototype is also currently being tested. The A1 will ride on the Volkswagen Group’s MQB platform and will be available in 3-cylinder and 4-cylinder engine options. The most powerful variant would be the S1 pumping out 231 or higher horsepower. The engine will be mated to either a 6-speed manual or 7-speed dual-clutch transmission system.
On the inside, the 2018 Audi A1 will offer latest technological features along with the Audi’s 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster.
In the future, Audi might even introduce an electric variant which will compete with the BMW i3 and Smart ForTwo Electric Drive. The 2018 A1 is expected to make its debut sometime in early 2018.
