The European version of the Volkswagen Golf R has received a number of updates and enhancements outside and inside as well as in the powertrain. The car now looks better than ever before.
Up front, both the hatchback and wagon variants get new head lamps and a revised bumper. We haven’t received the images of the interior yet, but the folks at Volkswagen Vortex suggest the Golf R will be equipped with a new infotainment system with a larger screen and gesture control technology. The standard instrument cluster may also be replaced with a new 12.5 inch display.
Under the hood, the Volkswagen Golf R will carry the same turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine, but the output has been increased from 300 horsepower to 310 horsepower. It is capable of going from 0 to 60 mph in just 4.6 seconds, which makes it comparable to the base model Porsche 911.
The updated Volkswagen Golf R is available at dealerships in Europe. It starts from €40,675 (about $42,500), while the automatic variant starts from €44,800 (roughly $46,800). Note that these updates are only available in the Euro-spec model. The US model will also receive similar updates in the coming months.
