Toyota recently ditched the Scion FR-S nameplate and adopted the badge of Toyota 86 for US and Canadian markets. The sports car is the same as the Scion FR-S in terms of design and features, albeit it does not include the fancy Scion badges. Recently, we got to know that a successor to the 2017 Toyota 86 is in works, which will be an ideal choice for those looking to buy an affordable rear-wheel drive sports car.

The news comes from Autocar, as the Toyota Europe boss Karl Schlicht confirmed to the publication group that the Toyota 86 successor will be arriving sometime in 2019. In 2014, the FUJI CEO Yasuyuki Yoshinaga also confirmed that a redesigned Subaru BRZ will be launched soon. Considering the existing Toyota 86 and the BRZ look quite similar, we can expect the new models of each car to arrive side-by-side.

Talking about the rear-wheel drive sports cars, there are very few reasonably priced examples in the market, thus it will be a good option for Toyota to launch the successor of 86, as it is priced relatively lower than its rivals.

Surprisingly, Toyota is also planning to launch two additional rear-wheel drive sports cars in the future; however, we do not have much information regarding them right now.
