Although this has not happened before as the Mercedes-Benz SL has always been a two-seater car, but a report from a German magazine, Auto Bild, suggests the upcoming model might feature a rear seat and will be able to accommodate up to four passengers. The upcoming Mercedes-Benz SL model will be built in collaboration with Mercedes-AMG division.
The new SL will share its platform with the new Mercedes AMG-GT, which is yet to arrive. The upcoming SL will be much more attractive and sporty compared to the current SL model. It will feature the same power-folding metal hardtop.
Auto Bild also states the upcoming Mercedes-Benz SL might offer 4-Matic wheel drive as an option, while the rear-wheel drive configuration will be standard. Another report mentions the new SL will be equipped with a newly developed turbocharged 3.0L six-cylinder engine, which will arrive next year in the revised S-Class model. The SL 300 model will pump out 365 horsepower, while the SL 400 will spawn around 435 horsepower. Another SL 500 model will be added to the lineup too, which will be powered by an AMG twin-turbocharged 4.0L V8 engine.
Expect the next Mercedes SL to arrive sometime in 2020.
