BMW first announced its plan to launch a new full-size SUV in 2014 and now we have finally caught the prototype of the 2019 BMW X7 testing somewhere on the roads. The new X7 will compete with the likes of Audi Q7, Cadillac Escalade, Mercedes-Benz GLS and Land Rover Range Rover once it arrives at the dealerships.
Talking about the design, the 2019 BMW X7 looks similar to the 2018 BMW X5, which was also spied recently, albeit the new X7 is muscular and boasts a more dominating front fascia. The head lamps and the front grille are temporary on this prototype version and will be replaced in the future models.
It rides on the new CLAR design modular platform, which also underpins the 2017 BMW 7-Series. The CLAR platform includes light-weight materials such as carbon fiber-reinforced plastic. It also has support for an electric powertrain, which leads us to believe that the 2019 BMW X7 might also offer an electric engine in the future.
Under the hood, the 2019 BMW X7 is expected to carry a gasoline V6 or V8 engine, while a V12 may also arrive sometime later. Expect the official launch toward the end of 2018.
