Sharjah Police have launched bicycle patrolling service that would be able to get to the scene even when the traffic is heavy. Due to the heavy traffic here patrolling cars take time to reach accidents and crime scenes. Residential areas, tourist spots and commercial places in Sharjah will be the focus of the new patrolling service.
Sharjah Police commander-in-chief, Brigadier Saif Ziri Al Shamsi says bicycle patrolling will reduce the response time, thus would help curb crime rates.
The bicycles are equipped with the emergency lights. The police officers would be able to communicate with the operation room using the communication tools available on the bicycle. The patrolling officers on bicycles would extend the same services and support as rendered by the car patrolling officers.
Brig.Al Shamisi cites the bicycle patrols are a part of the crime prevention program introduced by the Sharjah police on orders of His Highness Dr. Shaikh Sultan Bin Mohammad Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah.
To make certain the safety of the citizens, Sharjah Police have positioned 22 security, 12 police and 10 CID patrols in unmarked vehicles.
Another interesting and productive part of the safety plan is the introduction of security culture program for students. The program will focus on terrible activities like absenteeism, smoking, harassment and fighting etc.
Crime rate in the Emirate has been reduced by 27 percent ever since the new security initiative was implemented.
