Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) Dubai is thinking to employ hydrogen-powered taxis. The idea is a part of RTA’s sustainable transport strategy to offer people alternate fuel options along with reducing carbon emissions.
Toyota Miria, a hydrogen fuel vehicle, was presented at the second International Conference on Future Mobility. The vehicle promises to revolutionize the automobile industry boasting zero emissions with 500 kilometers range on a single charge.
The CEO of RTA’s Licensing Agency, Ahmad Hashem Behroozian believes hydrogen fuel is the lasting future. The hydrogen-powered taxis will be more eco-friendly and will run longer than electric vehicles. The best part is their tanks can be filled up in a very quick time similar to patrol fill up.
President of Al-Futtaim Automotive Group, Len Hunt says besides these vehicles, zero-emission hydrogen workplaces and houses will contribute to the possibility of a hydrogen society.
Toyota has set up two hydrogen fuelling stations in Dubai in collaboration with French firm Air Liquide.
Hydrogen fuel will be available at the same price as petrol in Europe and America. The UAE, on the other hand, might be able to provide hydrogen refilling on cheaper rates given its plentiful supplies of power.
According to François Darchis, Senior Vice-President at Air Liquide, solar plants, oil refineries, sewage sludge etc, are good sources of Hydrogen. All are sufficiently found in the UAE, which means Hydrogen fuel will become cheaper with the passage of time.
