We have just received the spy shots of a new BMW vehicle, which hint to the next-generation BMW 3-Series. Code named ‘G20’, the next generation BMW 3-Series will serve as a benchmark for the small sedan segment and will compete with the small sedans from Mercedes-Benz and Cadillac.
The next-generation BMW 3-Series will most likely ride on the CLAR architecture, which was debuted earlier on the 2016 BMW 7-Series. The CLAR platform makes use of lightweight materials such as aluminum, carbon fiber and magnesium. It is also capable of supporting a hybrid electric powertrain.
Talking about the exterior design, the spy shots reveal that the new BMW 3-Series incorporates all the standard BMW elements including the kidney grille, H-Kink and short overhangs. In terms of dimensions, the spied next generation BMW 3-Series appears lower and wider than the existing 3-Series models.
The spy shots don’t give us a good idea of the interior, but it seems a digital instrument cluster is present inside, which will probably be accompanied by a high-end infotainment system and voice-activated controls.
Under the hood, the next generation BMW 3-Series is expected to carry the same turbocharged 4 and 6-cylinder engines, while hybrid and diesel options will arrive later. Expect the debut sometime next year.
