Ford recently announced 6 new accident avoidance and driver-assist technologies that are expected to take the motoring world by storm within the next two years.
The first of these, Active Park Assist, is aimed at making parallel parking a safer and easier affair. The technology will use ultrasonic sensors to detect how much space is available for the car to park in, and then simply take over the steering and gas to steer the car safely into the parking spot, all at the simple push of a button.
Wrong Way alert works on both one-way streets and freeways, and is designed to use a front-mounted camera and GPS to make sure you never accidentally drive on the wrong side of the road again.
Next comes a highly innovative evasive steering assist system which, once activated, will help the driver safely steer around objects and avoid collisions in emergency situations. This will be made possible with the help of front and rear mounted cameras, and a radar.
The other three technologies include a new spot lighting system, which will use infrared cameras to detect animals, pedestrians, and cyclists, and an advanced camera based headlight that will widen the beam at intersections and roundabouts, and traffic jam assist.
