The tech-genius Elon Musk is not just into making high-end electric cars now. He has also expanded his work operations to provide solar power into every home. On 28th October, 2016, Elon Musk revealed two new products; the Tesla Powerwall home energy storage system and new solar panel system, which is made in collaboration with SolarCity.
The Tesla Powerwall home energy storage system was initially revealed last year in May. It had a capacity of 7 Kwh, whereas the new Tesla Powerwall 2.0 has double the capacity i.e.14 Kwh. The price starts at $5,500 and will be available for installation by the end of this year. The Powerwall is capable of providing enough electricity for 24 hours to a standard four-bed room house.
On the other hand, the solar panels by SolarCity will replace the conventional roof tiles with solar panel tiles to help any house get electricity through solar power. During the presentation, Elon Musk also demonstrated that the solar panel roof tiles are more durable compared to the standard roof tiles by dropping a weight on both of them. The pricing details of the solar panels were not provided by Musk.
Considering the hot and sunny weather of the Middle East, it would make a lot of sense if Tesla introduces these new products in this region too. We have to wait and see if the new products would arrive in GCC markets.
