From January, 2017, learner drivers have to take at least an hour driving lesson per day, announced by the RTA. The authority has been working to reform the driver’s training programme and found out that the present 30 minutes per day training isn’t enough for beginners.
Ahmed Hashem Bahrozyan, the CEO of Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) Licensing Agency said that no extra fee will be charged to the driving applicants.
Although the duration of a driving lesson has been increased, the minimum number of driving hours (20 hours) required to qualify for a driving licence remains the same. The authority believes that hourly training will help improve driving performance.
Bahrozyan added that even after the completion of the 20 driving hours, the school will weigh up the student’s performance before carrying out a road test.
Arif Al Malek, director of Drivers Training and Qualifications at RTA’s Licensing Agency said that the driving curriculum will keep undergoing changes to see what works best for new drivers.
He urged the driving schools not to pass students for a road test if they are not fully prepared even after completing the minimum number of driving hours.
The assessors will be answerable to RTA if they let an unqualified student go for the RTA road test.
