The Honda Civic Type R was recently caught testing, although it was heavily covered in disguise. However, last Thursday, the Japanese automaker finally unveiled the Honda Civic Type R prototype version and we can expect the production model to arrive anytime soon.
The body kit of the Honda Civic Type R prototype makes abundant use of carbon fibre on the front fascia, side skirts and on the rear splitter. Other exterior elements include diamond pattern mess grille, a large hood scoop, vortex generators on the edges of the roof, three exhaust tips, smoked LED taillights and side indicator lights.
The prototype model features sexy 20-inch wheels with red accents, but we doubt that these would be available in the production model.
We don’t know anything related to the interior or powertrain specs right now. However, the engine will most likely churn out a higher power output than the turbocharged 2.0-litre inline-4 cylinder unit present in the current Type R model (306 horsepower).
The new Honda Civic Type R will only launch as a hatchback model and we can expect the debut to take place at the 2016 SEMA show in Las Vegas in November.
