Our Dodge Neon 2017 Review
Walk Around the New Dodge Neon 2017
The Dodge Neon 2017 adopts a muscular persona with an expressive front chrome grille and a bulging out front bumper. The SXT Plus trim is equipped with 17-inch alloy wheels, front fog lamps and chrome trim on boot and side windows. Overall, the exterior styling is pretty straightforward but appears very attractive.
Cockpit Impression
Let’s inspect the back seats before getting behind the cockpit. The rear seats are surprisingly comfortable. The Dodge Neon’s wheelbase measures 2,638 mm, which is smaller, compared to its rivals like Toyota Corolla and Nissan Sentra (both have a wheelbase measuring 2,700 mm). The rear seating compartment extends a hand rest, which includes a slide-to-open cup holder.
The cockpit is ergonomically designed and boasts cosy seats. The front dash is equipped with a 7-inch touch display and an automatic air conditioning system. The electric power steering features mounted audio controls for driver’s ease.
The trunk space measures 520 liters which is huge and considered to be the biggest in its segment. Moreover, you can 60:40 split fold the rear seats to extend the storage capacity.
Dodge Neon 2017 Power Specs
The 2017 Neon is available in only one engine option:
- 1.6L SOHC 16V petrol engine, which is capable of delivering up to 110 horsepower and 152 Nm of torque.
The engine is mated to a 6-speed automatic transmission system.
Driving Dynamics
Although, Dodge claims that the Neon 2017 delivers the best in class acceleration, this may be a little exaggeration. We found that 1.6L engine offers an average performance, especially with four passengers seated you would notice a significant lag. With that said, those looking for quick acceleration can slip it into manual. The cabin is very quiet and you won’t get disturbed with the noise from outside.
The suspension system is impressive, though you may feel some mild vibration on a rough landscape, but that can also be due to the wheels size. The electronic power steering makes maneuvering around tight corners easy and features an above average handling.
I was able to go from standstill to 100 km/h in about 11 seconds. The top speed stands at 192 km/h. It consumed around 6.3 L / 100 KM (15.8 km / L) during the road test.
Technological Overview
The Dodge Neon 2017 extends some spectacular technological and convenience features. The front dash encompasses a 7-inch touch display with MP3 player, radio Bluetooth connectivity, USB and AUX input and a 6-speaker audio system. Other interior amenities include dusk sensor, rain sensors, electrochromic rear view mirror and a remote control with door locking/unlocking function.
Safety Features of Dodge Neon
Dodge doesn’t compromise on safety of the passengers, which is the reason every variant is equipped with the same advanced safety features. These safety features comprise of ABS with EBD, Electric power steering (EPS), Electronic Stability Programme (ESP), Traction Control (TRC), Electronic Rollover Mitigation (ERM), Tyre Pressure monitoring system (TPMS), Hill holder, driver and passenger airbags, side airbags, curtain airbags, ISOFIX child-seat anchor points, Immobilizer system and front fog lights with cornering function.
” Do not forget you also get comprehensive 5 year / 100,000 km manufacturer warranty”

Dislike
I’m not really impressed with the powertrain of the 2017 Dodge Neon. It lacks the desired energy and momentum. We expect an upgraded engine with a higher output in future.
