The Infiniti QX60 was originally launched with JX35 nameplate in 2013. The automaker later decided to give it a new name and an updated profile, thus renamed it to QX60. The Infiniti QX60 2016 made its public debut at the Detroit Auto Show in January and was unveiled in Dubai at a private event in April, 2016. The luxury crossover is available in three grades namely Premium, Comfort and Luxury. We got a chance to test drive the Luxury variant and here is our QX60 review.

Infiniti QX60 2016 Review

Walk Around the New QX60

Comparing the size of 2016 Infiniti QX60 with its German rival BMW X5, the latter is smaller in length (4,876 mm) but is taller (1,752 mm). Whereas, the new Infiniti QX60 featuring a length of 5,093 mm extends a much better interior space, but lacks enough head room. In terms of design, the 2016 QX60 features a revised front with a more aggressive front grille, bi-xenon LED headlamps and new LED fog lights. Towards the back, the rear bumper and tail lights have been tweaked too. I found it very interesting, as I was able to operate the trunk by a remote control. The 20-inch alloy wheels complement the overall muscular design of this crossover.

Cockpit Impression

Talking about the Infiniti QX60 interior, it does not only look big from the outside, but also offers an impressive space inside. The seats are extremely comfy with adequate leg room for taller passengers. The second row seats can slide fore and aft to allow passengers to easily move towards the third row seats, pretty handy isn’t it?

The cockpit is wonderfully designed with a combination of leather, wood and metal accent on the front dash and doors. The infotainment system screen looks a bit outdated and does not offer smartphone integration.

The cargo space measures 447 litres, which is decent but not extraordinary, considering the rivals.

2016 Infiniti QX60 Engine Specification

The 2016 Infiniti QX60 is available in only one engine option:

3.5-litre 24-valve V6 Double overhead camshaft (DOHC) engine which is capable of delivering up to 265 horsepower and 336 Nm of torque

The engine is paired with an electronically controlled Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT) paired with an all-wheel drive system.

Driving Dynamics of Infiniti QX60

In terms of performance, I wouldn’t give the 2016 Infiniti QX60 a five star. I found this crossover focused more on luxury than performance. Having a curb weight of 2,097 Kg, the Infiniti QX60 is heavier than its competitors such as 2017 Lexus RX (1,915 kg) and 2017 Acura MDX (1,950 kg). This makes it difficult to maneuver around tight corners. Nevertheless, I was able to go from 0 to 100 km/h in 7.9 seconds and touched the 195 km/h mark the automaker promises, which is not bad for such a bulky crossover. During our 2016 Infiniti QX60 test drive, it consumed around 10.2 litres to cover 100 kilometres (9.8 km/L).

Technological Overview

If you are disappointed with the performance of new Infiniti QX60, fret not. You would be stunned to see its advanced and modern technological features. The Infiniti’s remote control is all you need to unlock the doors and the trunk.

Moreover, the push button ignition system makes it more convenient to start the vehicle. The tri-zone climate control system is ideal for UAE’s hot climate. Plus, the windows are UV protected, so the cabin is always cool. The front centre console extends 12V power outlet, AUX input and USB support. The front dash features an LCD display with Bluetooth hands-free system, Infiniti hard drive navigation system, and 13-speaker BOSE premium sound system with iPod connectivity and 9.3 GB music box hard drive. Since this is the premium grade, it also has a rear seat entertainment system with dual 7-inch monitors and wireless headphones.

Infiniti QX60 2016 Safety Features

The safety features are equally impressive as the interior facilities. The around view monitor with front and rear sonar system makes parking in tight spots convenient. The optional safety features include blind spot monitoring, lane departure warning, distance control assist, predictive forward collision warning, intelligent brake assist, intelligent cruise control and more. The 2016 Infiniti QX60 has received a 5 star safety rating from NHTSA (The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration).
