Mitsubishi has released renderings of the GT-PHEV Concept set to debut at the 2016 Paris Motor Show. The concept car is being hailed by Mitsubishi as the next generation SUV. While it may never actually make it to the production line, it is expected to form the basis for the Japanese automaker’s future SUV lineup.

The GT-PHEV concept bears a distinct resemblance to the eX Concept that debuted last year with X-shaped grille openings, 3 hexagonal fog lights and sleek headlights. The interior of the vehicle is not included in the released renderings, but according to Mitsubishi, there are enough high-tech gadgets to give it a cockpit-like look.

Most interesting thing is the powertrain, which features the Mitsubishi’s plug-in hybrid system comprising 3 electric motors, a regular internal combustion engine (developed for hybrid systems) and a high-end battery. The front-mounted electric motor powers the front wheels, while the remaining two are rear-mounted powering the rear wheels.

Mitsubishi is touting the GT-PHEV Concept as a long-distance vehicle and claims that the vehicle can cover 75 miles on electric power only. Adding gas to the equation increases the range ten times.

Rumours have it that the technology shown in the concept car will be featured in the next-generation Mitsubishi Outlander.
