The online car-hailing company Careem has resumed operations in Abu Dhabi after a brief suspension.
Careem was one of the two companies suspended in Abu Dhabi after some limousine drivers were arrested and detained for not having proper licenses. The vehicles involved were also impounded.
As per regulations, online car-hailing companies are required to use vehicles and drivers from licensed limo companies. Individual drivers are not allowed to drive a limousine.
The other suspended company Uber has not yet had its suspension revoked. Uber says they would like further clarification before resuming operations in order to ensure that passengers will not face any issues during their trips.
Careem will be starting operations on a skeleton basis and is requesting customers to exercise patience as they may not be able to keep up with demands. The company is planning to build up its fleet gradually and is working closely with the authorities to provide reliable services for customers as per set regulations.
