Passengers can now use the 10-digit coordinates of the Makani Mapping App to provide more accurate directions to Dubai taxi drivers.
The Makani Mapping App was launched in April 2015 by Dubai Municipality and is capable to provide accurate locations within one square metre. The App is currently being tested by Dubai Taxi Corporation and will probably be implemented by the end of August.
At present, the Makani Mapping App is being used by Dubai Police and allows Dubai residents to send police the Makani coordinates for emergency reporting. While residents are still getting used to the new system, there is no doubt that its widespread use will make it an integral part of Dubai’s transport systems.
The installation of this app in Dubai Taxis offers numerous advantages to passengers including hassle free instructions to taxi drivers and ease of booking a taxi on the go.
