Jaguar has reportedly succumbed to the prevalent automotive industry trends and has chosen to swim with the tide. The Coventry based car manufacturer has decided to abandon the future development of XK coupe and convertible along with C-X75 supercar.
The automotive manufacturer has instead realigned its plans and is now focusing on the construction of luxury EVs. By doing this, the company hopes to be in a competitive position against other auto manufacturers, especially Tesla.
The new direction has come to the surprise of many industry analysts as Jaguar-Land Rover has only recently created a Special Vehicle Operations division to rival BMW’s M, Mercedes-AMG, and Audi’s S. Now going for EVs after all the efforts makes little sense.
Reports suggest production of two new EVs; one will be an all new fully loaded SUV and the other will be an eventual substitute of XJ.
The XJ version will be focusing on the target market of Tesla S along with X590, codenamed new EV SUV, which is going to be a combo of Land Rover and Jaguar’s F-Pace. The new EVs will also be equipped with the self driving technologies.
Both the vehicles will be rear-wheel drives with an optional all-wheel drive for the X590 featuring two new electric motors on each axle.
Notwithstanding the go green revolution, we are definitely going to miss the Jaguar super cars in future.
