So, the dreaded eventually happened. A man crashed his car into a tree while playing Pokémon Go and injured himself last week in Auburn, New York.
Still unidentified, the driver received minor injuries in the accident. He later admitted to the Auburn Police about playing the viral mobile game while driving, and this was the eventual cause of the accident.
The Pokémon Go mobile game was launched last week and has since been a mammoth hit among the fans with millions of downloads and active users till date. The game urges users to visit physical locations in search of virtual Pokémon characters capturing them through their smartphone cameras with an objective of defeating animated digital monsters.
The game has raised serious concerns among the traffic authorities worldwide, as they fear about people’s safety. Gamers are on the go while engrossed in the game simultaneously. Shawn Butler, Auburn Police Chief had the following advice for the Pokémon Go players. And this advice is true for UAE too.
- Don’t play while driving
- Always keep a close eye on your surroundings like roads, bridges, walkways etc.
- Prefer travelling in well lit locations and with some company
- Never trespass any private property while playing
- Avoid sharing your location with someone you do not know well
We can only hope someone is paying attention.
