Efficiency and zero emissions are some of the attributes that might define the future Mulsanne. The British automaker is planning to introduce an all-electric Mulsanne in the near future possibly as early as 2018. Renowned for its comfort and luxury, Bentley Mulsanne is an ideal choice for an all-electric version.
The company’s Marketing Manager Hans Holzgartner explained the reason behind the innovative decision. He believes the zero emission requirement enforced through legislation in some Chinese cities necessitated the plan. Initially, the company may have opted for a hybrid powertrain, but in order to ensure its strong presence in the ever increasing Chinese market, the automobile manufacturer has no choice but to develop an all-electric version.
Some sources claim that the currently used Mulsanne V8 engine producing a horsepower of 530 and 811 pound feet of torque will probably be discontinued for the all-electric version. This might make us witness some interesting competition between Bentley and Tesla, but apparently the company looks all geared up towards its strategic expansion.
Rumour has it that the all-electric Mulsanne might incorporate a twin turbo V8 Porsche engine. Either way, we look forward to seeing how Bentley fares against Mercedes and Audi in the Chinese market and the world over.
