RTA Dubai has signed an MOU with Smart Dubai for a systems upgrade that will allow commercial payments through NOL cards.
Dubai residents have long been using NOL cards as a smart payment system for public transport, including metro, bus, water buses and taxis. The cards were already enabled with an e-wallet system, a feature which will now enable mini-payments through the NOL cards. The initiative has a lot of potential and will add another notch of convenience to the NOL cards.
Amongst the goals of the MOU between RTA and Smart Dubai Office is the further enhancement of NOL card usage. The MOU charts out a roadmap for extending the services of the card for multiple services across Dubai and explores the costs associated with adding on features to the NOL card.
The agreement also aims to identify the respective responsibilities of the involved parties (RTA, Smart Dubai Office and any service beneficiaries) along with operational models governing the logistics of service expansion.
