Elemental, a British automotive company has recently launched its new Rp1 sports car at Goodwood Festival of Speed held last weekend. The Elemental Rp1 employs a carbon composite tub giving prospective buyers an option between two Ford Ecoboost engines. The buyers can choose from either 320-horse 2.0-liter 4-cylinder or 180-horsepower 1.0-liter 3-cylinder.

The standout feature of the Elemental Rp1 is its innovative use of Formula One proven aerodynamics for down force generation, thus making drag causing big wings redundant in the design. The company has utilized wind tunnel testing as well as computational fluid dynamics software in the design making processes of its new sports car. The shape has been rigorously tested in the field and track for its veritable performance.

As per the company, the main contributing factor for the car’s accentuated aerodynamic performance is the down force it creates. The layout has been inspired from the actual Formula One race car, where machined marine plywood front splitter present in the underbody directs the air flow hitting the car.

The central floor panel of the car is large, flat and aerodynamically clean, thus improving the aerodynamic performance of the car. The engine can generate up to 880 pounds of down force at a speed of about 150 mph owing to the advanced aerodynamic design of the car’s underbody.
