The rumours of a mid-engine Chevrolet Corvette have been circulating around for years. However only recently we came to know through CorvetteBlogger that the sports car is indeed in works and may debut soon. This could be true as a spy photographer has recently caught a mid-engined sports car test driving. We believe it is definitely the most anticipated Chevrolet Corvette.
The spy shots are not very clear, as they were taken from a mile away with the help of a long lens, but we can still deduce that the prototype boasts a large opening towards the middle, which suggests that a mid-mounted engine is placed here with a glass covering on top.
Not much is known regarding the powertrain, but speculations are that it might carry a turbocharged, direct-injection V6 engine which will be capable of producing over 700 horsepower. With this monstrous powertrain, the mid-engine Chevrolet Corvette will compete with the likes of Ford GT, Ferrari 488 and Lamborghini Huracan.
It is expected to debut at the 2018 Detroit Auto Show as a 2019 model. The pricing will be closer to the Ford GT series, which means, it could cost around $400,000.
