The Cadillac CT6 is a full size luxury sedan, which was first introduced at the 2015 New York International Auto Show. The Middle East launch of the 2017 Cadillac CT6 was held at an event in Four Seasons resort on Al Maryah Island, Abu Dhabi a few days ago. We got a chance to test drive this magnificent sedan and here is our 2017 Cadillac CT6 review.

2017 Cadillac CT6 Test Drive

Walk Around

The exterior styling of the Cadillac CT6 2017 is absolutely fantastic. It sports a bold and expressive front featuring a large chrome grille and the signature Cadillac vertical LED light blades as well as day time running lights. The sides are perfectly sculpted to give an elegant persona. The body is made from aluminium to keep the weight low and improve the aerodynamics. Cadillac claims that the 2017 CT6 is just 8 kg heavier than the CTS sedan.

Cockpit Impression

The abundant use of wood and leather inside testifies the automakers’ efforts to make the CT6 as luxurious as possible. The front dash and the upper part of the doors are all covered in premium leather, while a few elements near the gearbox feature wooden trim. Every seat is fully powered and features individual heating/cooling and massage option for maximum comfort.

Having an overall length of 204 inches, both the front and rear seat passengers benefit from a large legroom. The rear seats can be reclined for extra comfort during long journeys.

Engine Specifications of 2017 Cadillac CT6

The 2017 Cadillac CT6 is available in two engine options:

  • 3.0L twin-turbo charged V6 engine that delivers 400 horsepower and 542 Nm of torque (the one I test drove)
  • 3.6L naturally aspirated V6 engine that produces 335 horsepower

Both the powertrains are paired with a standard 8 speed automatic transmission system and are available in either rear wheel or all-wheel drive configuration.

Driving Dynamics

In terms of performance, the 2017 Cadillac CT6 is undoubtedly astounding. It features three selectable drive modes; Tour, Sport and Snow. Each mode adjusts the throttle, transmission, and steering accordingly. I first drove it on the Tour mode and noticed a smooth performance, and then switched to Sport mode for an enhanced and engaging driving experience. Thanks to the magnetic ride control technology, the ride quality is not disturbed when you drive on uneven or rocky terrain.

Accelerating on a straight road, I was able to go from zero to 100 km/h in under 6 seconds which is pretty impressive. The fuel it consumed during the test drive was around 8.5 km/L, not bad for a full-size luxury sedan.

Technological Overview

The CT6 2017 is one of the best technologically advanced luxury cars I have ever driven. It features an array of latest equipment including a 10.2″ Front Touchscreen which can be easily controlled via the touchpad placed near the gearbox, Ultra View Panoramic Sunroof and a Rear Camera Mirror. The infotainment system is fairly easy to understand and features Android Auto and Apple CarPlay integration. The rear seat passengers benefit from dual 10” HD display screens with USB and AUX slot inside the centre armrest. For music lovers, the 34-speaker Bose Panaray sound system is definitely the best feature.

The high quality aluminium body structure of the CT6 sedan is not just aerodynamically efficient but also super quiet. It ensures that no sound from the outside world can be heard inside. As you can see in the video, when I turned up the volume of the sound system, it was very loud inside the car with no outside noise.

Safety Features of Cadillac CT6 2017

The 2017 CT6 sedan also offers class leading safety features such as Pedestrian collision mitigation (optional) that scans the road and alerts the driver for any incoming pedestrian, Enhanced night vision technology that keeps you safe from potential hazards at night and a Surround vision system that provides a bird’s-eye view of the whole vehicle.

Dislike

The focus of CT6 is more towards comfort and luxury rather than power and speed. The engine is powerful but good for a sleek and smooth drive only, not for speeding.

Verdict

The 2017 Cadillac CT6 is one of the best luxury cars built by Cadillac. I’m truly impressed by the level of opulence it offers and would definitely recommend it to anyone looking to buy a spacious luxury sedan. The CT6 price starts at AED 240,000.
