Dubai Police may terminate the minibus transportation service soon due to bad traffic statistics and involvement in accidents. General Mohammed Saif Al Zafeen has proposed an amendment in the traffic law and forwarded to the Interior Ministry for further notice.

Talking to the media, Al Zafeen shared that the minibuses should only be used for goods transportation. The minibuses can carry 14 passengers who are seated in a closed arrangement. The unavailability of the basic safety facilities in these vehicles makes them a dangerous medium of transportation for passengers. According to him, the mini bus transportation service should be banned, as they are involved in 15% of the traffic fatalities every year.

This year has already recorded deaths of 64 people within the first four months compared to 49 deaths recorded in the same period last year, cites Dubai Police.

The Traffic Council also recommends putting a stop to the transportation of heavy goods vehicles on Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Road for decreasing the number of traffic crashes.
