To celebrate the 50th anniversary of the BMW 2002 turbo, the German automaker has unveiled the BMW 2002 Hommage concept at the Concorsod’Eleganza Villa d’Este in Italy.
The BMW 2002 Turbo was launched in 1973 and was the first car in Europe to be equipped with a turbo powertrain. It is regarded as one of the best production cars and was responsible for boosting the BMW’s popularity.
Talking about the compact coupe, Adrian van Hooydonk, Senior Vice President BMW Group Design explained that the launch of BMW 2002 Hommage is a way of paying tribute and acknowledging all the achievements made by the automaker.
The exterior styling of the BMW 2002 Hommage concept is designed to mimic that of the original 2002 Turbo. The 2002 Hommage features round head lamps with separate turn lights located above, BMW’s signature kidney grills and an aggressive front spoiler. Towards the rear, the 2002 Hommage features rectangular tail lamps and four exhaust tips.
