The Tesla Roadster, codenamed ‘Dark Star’ was the automaker’s first open top electric car produced between 2008 and 2012. The production ended as the Tesla’s contract with Lotus expired on 2011, and since then the company has not built another open-top electric car.
However recently, Tesla’s Nordic Countries Manager Peter Bardenfleth-Hansen has revealed that the company is looking forward to introduce a new Tesla Roadster model in the upcoming years.
Talking at a presentation in Sweden, Peter stated that the Tesla next generation Roadster will look different and bigger in size as well as perform a little faster compared to regular roadsters.
Reportedly, it will be based on the Tesla Model 3’s platform and will not use parts from Lotus like before. Elon Musk also promised that the Tesla’s next sports car will feature a distinct acceleration mode called maximum plaid and it will be more powerful than the current ‘Ludicrous Mode’.
Since the automaker is currently busy with the production of the Model 3, we can expect the new Tesla Roadster to arrive by 2020 or later.
