While Kia announced it will launch autonomous car by 2030, General Motors was one step ahead declaring to launch autonomous vehicles by 2025. However recently, the CEO of Fiat Chrysler Automobiles, Sergio Marchionne stated that his company is just five years away from the first autonomous car.

Talking to the media at the Fiat’s Windsor Assembly plant, Sergio stated that the autonomous vehicle technology is progressing at a fast pace. And while other automakers will take 20 years to build their self-driving cars, Fiat will have them ready in five years.

FCA and Google are working together to create first autonomous car. Previously, Google was acquiring vehicles from other automakers and the company’s tech team was working independently on the autonomous technology. But this time, the engineers and technicians from both Fiat and Google are working closely. FCA has also signed a deal last week for which the automaker will build 100 minivans to be used by Google in the autonomous technology development.
