Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (Dewa) is on a mission to make ‘Dubai Green’ reducing carbon emissions up to 19% by increasing hybrid and electric technologies. Dewa is working on different projects including the Green Charger Initiative that asks for 100 charging stations across UAE to contribute towards its green economy. The initiative is currently in its last two stages.
According to Dewa, the initiative’s second stage requires installation of more EV charging stations based on customer’s usage and driving routine. In the third stage, the electric charging stations will be given final touches. Dewa also shared plans to increase the electric cars usage in the city as part of green solutions in Dubai.
The Green Charger Initiative will play a crucial role in reducing carbon emissions across Dubai by 16% by 2020. The initiative has got a lot of support from environment conscious people who prefer clean energy cars over the conventional vehicles.
Managing Director and CEO of Dewa, Saeed Mohammad Al Tayer shared that the Green Charger Initiative will not only reduce air pollution but will also increase the number of hybrid and electric cars (10%) in the city by 2030.
Dewa is the Dubai’s first government organisation to use electric cars, recently adding 8 electrics to its vehicle collection.
