To compete with its French rival, the German automaker has introduced BMW Quad Turbo diesel engine with 3.0L displacement, which will be offered in the new BMW 7 series range. The first vehicle to feature this powertrain will be BMW 750d xDrive.

The new BMW Quad Turbo diesel engine was revealed at the 37th International Vienna Motor Symposium. It extends two low pressure and two high pressure turbo-chargers which jointly produce a total of 394 horsepower and 561 lb-ft (760 Nm) of torque. This powertrain is not only more powerful than the tri-turbo, but also five percent more fuel efficient.

With this engine, the BMW 750d xDrive, paired with 8 speed ZF automatic gearbox will be capable of going from 0 to 60 mph in 4.5 seconds with a top speed of 155 mph.

Right now, we are not sure whether the new quad turbo engine will arrive in the US and GCC markets or not. It is initially going to hit the European region first.
