A new Audi Sports car is expected to be introduced soon, and reports indicate that it will rank below the Audi R8 and above the TT.

So, what would it be called when it arrives? According to AutoBild, this new Audi Sports car will be dubbed as Audi R6 and will be based on the Porsche 718 Boxster and 718 Cayman. The powertrain will include a turbocharged 2.5-litre five-cylinder engine capable of generating 550 horsepower.

Although we have seen a couple of concept cars introduced by the automaker over the past few years, however none of them have got the green light for production. Audi recently appointed the ex CEO of Automobili Lamborghini S.p.A. Stephan Winkelmann as their new boss of Quattro GmbH division, and that gives us a strong hint that this new Audi R6 Sports car will hit the dealerships in a couple of years.

The AutoBild report also states that the R6 would most probably be showcased next year and will be made available in 2018.
